Whitney A. Walker, CEO The Glass Boxes.com
Inspired by the elegant architecture of the International Modernists such as Mies van der Rohe’s Farnsworth House and Phillip Johnson‘s Glass House we believe there is a way to incorporate biophilia into architecture.
We are passionate about sustainable building and manufactured buildings can save up to 30% of the materials and labor from a single job site. Manufactured buildings also provide more consistent and better working conditions for construction employees. We are passionate about air quality and health issues from toxic products used inside both conventional and manufactured homes. We believe the American suburban front lawn is a waste of space and petrochemicals and should be incorporated into an interior courtyard. We believe light and air and space combined with water and trees and nature provides and ancient combination for a calm, spa inspired way to live.
We are passionate about climate change and know that a huge contributor to this planet destroying problem is our homes, how they are built, what ways, means and materials they are built with and the energy, water and goods we consume to operate our homes. We hope our Glass boxes are combined with both solar electricity and water reclamation, recycling programs and have even designed a composting area into our lot plans.
Our goal at The Glass Boxes is to build sustainable communities of three hundred homes per neighborhood based on ancient greenways in Europe. To build homes that are modular to incorporate multi generational living, key to a family‘s support system. Modular to incorporate home offices and studios which we believe will be a permanent part of the future. Modular to expand and contract as a family compound over time.
Our goal at The Glass Boxes.com is to build homes in an environment that only uses sustainable materials such as glass, steel, bamboo plywood and wall paneling (bamboo is the fastest growing renewable resource on the planet) To build homes that maximize all materials use and eliminates waste and toxins from both the home, the manufacturing process, the job site, the employees and the home owners.
